For identity anonymity, this is circa. 2017-2022.; Ro is a great recruiter which is where I got hit hard. She followed me for months and I was convinced that she makes her athletes amazing. But in reality, she just recruits amazing athletes. My freshman season had great success under the favoritism of Ro, but honestly under a senior class of quite talent. But with mental health challenges I faced in later years, plus team records not doing as well; she quickly put me on the back burner and had little care to who I was (other than being a ‘role model’ to her precious “bigger, stronger, freshmen.” ) Which I was happy to provide because I believed so much in the program, its growth, and the young ladies out with the same goals as mine. Plus, I’m going to add a hint of racial bias to white players. But Covid, really changed the team dynamics and the coaching dynamic with a great deal of the enforcement of Varsity/Junior Varsity (when we are all literally recruited with the goal and promise of Varsity) - that ruined the experience for me. I came in original varsity my freshman teared down to being a “JV hero” following, because by then the rest of my varsity teammates gave zero shits. I believe that Ro is a good woman, that doesn’t know how to run a good team. A team without constant competition that leads to hostility among teammates, advice for personal/player growth other than sending them to a crappy school therapist, and genuine care outside of just winning and getting conference/regional/nationally awards and titles.
