Discuss the head coach and his/her staff's coaching abilities including style of play and coaching style. Also, discuss overall experience as a student-athlete.

Terrible coach. She doesn’t care about swimming or academics. All she cares about is control. She waits to hurt you personally and then cuts you the last second without you expecting it. She surrounds herself with young staff so she can control them as well. Especially Scott Stern. That guy is always on his knees for her.

Don’t let the other comments deceive you. These people typically came in and decided to party their way through an athletics program, or wanted to quit but couldn’t stand up to their parents. The coaches promote a culture of growth, inclusion, and unity. If you want to be the person who wants the “full college experience” while being a year round D1 swimmer, then you’ll probably struggle to fit into that team culture. She has produced numerous NCAA Qualifiers, Olympic Trial qualifiers, and International level qualifiers and has picked this team up from being a barebones party team to a competitive P5 level program.

Swimming at UC under Mandy was the worst culture I have ever experienced. It amazes me that a recruit would consider this program. Few stay for all four years. She threatens her swimmers with removing their scholarships if they don’t achieve certain time standards. If your academic program requires co-op or clinical rotations, your swim career is over. She cuts and releases many swimmers on the team each year. She has many documented rule violations. I am surprised that the AD continues her contract given her track record.

Don't be deceived by her kind recruiting manners, high chance she will cut you before your second year.
