Coach Stephens has to be the worst soccer coach that I have personally ever dealt with. He does not genuinely care about any of the players or the team as a whole. Any decision that he makes is solely with his best interest in mind. He talks to us like we are trash and he makes it known that he feels like anyone is replaceable except for him. He refuses to have Assistant Coaches, because he does not want anyone else to have an opportunity to have an opinion about how he runs "HIS" team. If you disagree with him or his antics, he labels you disloyal, he isolates girls on a team in order to either force them to quit or to bad mouths them so much to the rest of the team that they feel uncomfortable being on the team. In a time where we are seeing student athletes battle mental health and some even committing suicide, Stephens is a prime example of a coach who excuses his words and actions, not even attempting to realize how he is negatively affecting young women. I gave him 2 stars for communication, not because he is a good communicator, but because he sends a ton of text messages, that is until he throws a tantrum and kicks you out of the group text. He does promote good grades, not because he wants to see you do well and succeed, but because if you have good grades you can get more academic money from AAMU and he doesn't have to give you much Athletic aid, that way he can recruit a lot of girls, because he knows that it is highly likely that many girls will quit the team or enter the transfer portal. I don't any other ways to express that he is not a good, fair, or knowledgeable coach to play for.
