Complete lack of Soccer IQ, to be honest I don’t think he even deserved to be awarded the job in the first place. His look at his lifetime stats as coach at SMU, the numbers are a testimony to his poor coaching, inability to lead, and unwillingness to adapt. Playing under Coach Bowers for 4 years was a horrible decision as he chose starters based on players who kissed his a** and ridiculed those who did not. However, he did have the ability to hire solid assistant coaches. Notably, Chris Gaskin and Kyle Nelson both made exceptional coaches - though it seemed Bowers often refused to listen to their ideas resulting in them leaving SMU after 1 season each.
