Coach Mills uses the tag line "more than a team" to try and encourage unity among his players. This year's big fundraising event was a golf outing at a course run by an Alumni who racially derided players during a drunken rant. I expected more from University whose President is held in such high esteem among the United Methodist Ministries.

Virginia Wesleyan is a good school for students looking for a solid education at a small school close to the beach. Unfortunately, Coach Mills has lied about everything throughout the recruiting process. After spending my life trying to play college soccer, I fell for a pile of lies. Coach has a standard set of lines, "I am bringing in 8 or 9 new players to replace those that are graduating or injured. He has been averaging 16 new recruits a year. "We work hard to build a family" which translates to I get to keep my job as long as I over recruit and keep kids on campus. This year he had nearly 50 kids in preseason. This resulted him in cutting two freshman, forcing out two sophomores, and encouraging several seniors to quit. However, he was smart enough to wait to let people know that they were out until they could no longer get a full-refund and had lost their year of eligibility. Best advice, attend Virginia Wesleyan if you want a great school close to the beach, avoid Virginia Wesleyan at all costs if you intend to have a positive college soccer experience, or have any expectation of coaches acting like adults or upholding even the minimum level of core values.

Coach was born down the street from the school and has never left. He played here, was an assistant coach here, and coaches here. He has no new or original ideas and as the game moves forward we continue to lose more games each year than the year before. VWU is a great school with an amazing location which plays to his advantage because he can recruit 20+ new players each year hoping that he can recruit his way to success rather than building a team or teaching the game.
